Joining a wine club is the most common souvenir from a Fredericksburg trip. It's also the one people second-guess when the first shipment arrives. Here's how to choose well.
The four things that matter
- Bottles per shipment. Most clubs offer 3, 6 or 12 bottles.
- How often. Anywhere from monthly to two to five times a year.
- Commitment. Many require a minimum number of shipments before you can cancel, and a few charge an early-exit fee.
- Perks you'll really use. Free tastings for you and guests are only worth it if you'll be back in town.
Free-to-join vs. buy-in clubs
Some clubs, including the Heath Family Brands wineries (Grape Creek, K Estate, Invention and Heath Sparkling), are free to join, and you pay per shipment. Others ask for a first purchase or starter kit at sign-up.
